At RNGEM Children’s Home, located in the fragile and conflict-affected region of Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (South-Kivu), access to adequate and nutritious food remains one of the most urgent and life-threatening challenges facing orphaned and vulnerable children.
Our Nutrition & Feeding Program is a lifesaving, dignity-centered intervention designed to ensure that every child under our care receives consistent, balanced, and nutritious meals daily.
Through this initiative, we are not only feeding children — we are restoring strength, rebuilding health, and renewing hope for a future once threatened by hunger.
Energy-rich porridge (maize, sorghum, or cassava) Seasonal fruits when available Clean drinking water
Staple foods (rice, beans, cassava, or maize flour)
Vegetables rich in micronutrients
Occasionally protein sources (fish, eggs, or legumes)
Balanced meal ensuring satiety and recovery Warm, comforting foods to support restful sleep
Each meal is designed to meet minimum dietary diversity standards and caloric needs for growing children.
Beyond feeding, our program integrates basic nutritional care and health monitoring, recognizing that food alone is not enough.
Key components include:
Regular monitoring of children’s growth and weight
Identification and response to malnutrition risks
Hygiene and safe food preparation practices
Clean water access to prevent waterborne diseases

At RNGEM, every mealtime is more than nourishment — it is a moment of gratitude, dignity, and spiritual grounding.
Children are encouraged to:
Give thanks through prayer
Share meals in unity and peace
Experience love, care, and belonging
This practice nurtures not only the body but also the heart and spirit, reinforcing values of faith, hope, and community.
To ensure long-term resilience, RNGEM is working toward sustainable, locally driven food solutions, including:
Small-scale agriculture and kitchen gardens
Community partnerships for food supply
Capacity building in food production
Our vision is to transition from emergency feeding to self-reliant nourishment systems, reducing dependency while strengthening local resilience.
RNGEM is committed to accountability, transparency, and responsible stewardship of resources.
We provide: Regular updates to partners and supporters
of food distribution and usage Visual reports (photos and stories from the field)
We believe that trust is built through clear communication and visible impact.
Despite ongoing efforts, the program faces critical challenges: Severe food shortages due to limited funding
Rising food prices in local markets
Increasing number of vulnerable children in need
Limited infrastructure for food storage and preparation
At times, sustaining even one meal per day becomes uncertain, placing children at risk.
